The Winterburn Business Association (WBA) was established in 2003 to represent the needs of its members on matters of importance to the people working in the Winterburn business area, at the western edge of the City of Edmonton. The WBA has engaged with City Councillors and the Mayor, with city staff, with business owners and with other stakeholders. As the park grows, so does the strength of the WBA.
The Winterburn Industrial Area was annexed by the City of Edmonton in 1982, but at the time no plan was made for adequate roads, sewers, water mains, lighting or sidewalks. Despite this, Winterburn has seen steady growth because of its affordable land values and proximity to the major transportation arteries of the Anthony Henday Drive ring road and Highway 16 (Yellowhead Trail).
Today, there are hundreds of businesses located in this park, with thousands of people travelling in and out each day. But the basic infrastructure taken for granted by people working in the rest of the city is not there. We operate on wells and septic tanks. There are no sidewalks or streetlights. Transit is limited.
